When are rehearsals?
Generally, Mondays and Thursdays!
In Term 1, rehearsals for cast and crew are every Thursday commencing in Week 4. Selected cast will also be required on Mondays and will be notified once the casting is finalised.
Further information will be released regarding the Term 2 and Term 3 schedule, however it will become the expectation that all cast and crew are at all Monday AND Thursday rehearsals from about Week 6 in Term 2 (21st May).
Rehearsals are from 3:30pm-5:30pm (unless otherwise specified).
Students are expected to grab their bags and make their way straight to the theatre straight after period 6 on these days. Please note that STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO EXIT THE SCHOOL GROUNDS during this time, including any trips to Foodworks, the fish & chip shop, etc.
The first rehearsal will take place on Monday 19th February and all students, both cast and crew, are expected to attend this rehearsal. This rehearsal will be pivotal as all students will participate in a read through of the script as well as have the chance to hear all of the music for the first time!
Extra rehearsals will be held as we get closer to show week. Like our regular rehearsals, these are compulsory for all cast and/or crew members required. For more detailed information regarding the rehearsal schedule, please see the SCHEDULE page, which will continue to be updated over time.
Do I need any prior experience?
No prior experience is required. Students of all abilities are encouraged to audition/sign up. We are looking for a committed cast who love to perform and some dedicated crew who can give it their all!
What do I wear to auditions and rehearsals?
You may wish to change into something more comfortable than your school uniform, particularly advised for students wearing dresses/skirts. PE uniform is perfect, as is anything else that is appropriate and easy to move in. We will also be getting PRODUCTION SHIRTS which we encourage you to wear to rehearsals once they arrive.
Do I have to audition?
If you want to be part of the cast, yes! But we do understand that this can be a daunting experience and aim to make it as stress-free for you as we can. Remember that nerves are natural, as well as keeping in mind that we aren't there to judge you but rather to see which role in the production is best suited to you! All cast members must attend auditions to sing and dance for a panel; more details available on the AUDITION REQUIREMENTS page.
Can I audition for multiple roles?
Of course! We encourage you to express your interest in as many characters as you like, keeping in mind that there will be lots of others who will probably want the same role(s) as you! Unfortunately we can't have 50 Dorothys, for example, so the more you are able to show us the better understanding we have of you as a performer and can do our best to cast accordingly.
What is expected of students in the production?
All students involved in production must read, sign and return a production contract to ensure clear understanding of the expectations and commitment that comes with it.
Student must attend all relevant rehearsals, as specified in the rehearsal SCHEDULE as well as any lunchtime rehearsals that are called (TBA).
Students are expected to help out with fundraising for the show, which previously has included selling a box of chocolates in our chocolate drive. More information will be given regarding this as it arises.
Students are expected to rehearse at home. Learn your lines, know your songs, practise your dance moves or develop your character and voice. Listen to all feedback during rehearsals and use this to make improvements, so that we can be as productive as possible each rehearsal.
Does it cost anything to be involved in the show?
Currently there is no cost associated with being in the Kambrya College production. Some students may be asked to supply some specific clothing items to wear during show week but will be notified once this is worked out.
Can I eat at rehearsals?
Students are asked to remember that there is a no food policy in the theatre. Having said that, we do understand that your bodies need energy to function and we want to keep you healthy and happy. Students are encouraged to bring light, neat, snacks to each rehearsal, as well as a full water bottle. Please note that students are NOT permitted to leave the school grounds before or during rehearsals. This means that there are to be no trips to Foodworks, the fish & chip shop, etc. Not only is this part of us making sure you all stay safe, but it ensures that rehearsals can start on time and we are working as a fair and committed team.
What happens if I miss a rehearsal?
Students are expected to attend every rehearsal they are scheduled for. This is to ensure that rehearsals can be used productively as well as maintain a strong group dynamic and accountability for the show. We do understand that everyone is human and that sometimes things are beyond our control, but kindly ask that you keep disruptions to rehearsal to a minimum where possible. If you do know of any dates that you may not be able to attend, please inform us of this in advance so that it can be taken into account in our planning.
In the unfortunate case where it is imperative that you miss a rehearsal, please notify the school/production staff so that your absence can be accounted for. If you are ever aware of an absence in advance, please notify us as early as possible. If you do miss a rehearsal, it is your responsibility to catch up on whatever you may have missed. Our Facebook group is helpful for this, as are your peers!
It is expected that students attend a minimum 90% of their scheduled rehearsals. If inconsistent attendance becomes an issue, this may jeopardise your involvement in the production.
When is production week?
Production week is Week 3 of Term 3! This will be a busy, fun, chaotic, rewarding, emotional time for everyone involved and will be over before we know it! In summary, there main events will happen from Saturday 28th July to Sunday 5th August. Further information can be found on the SCHEDULE page.
